Ortigia is an island with architectural masterpieces
dating from the Greek times. It's located at the center of a magnificent
bay with cliffs and beaches, the natural park of 'Plemmirio'. The nearby
area is rich with archaeological, historical sites and natural parks.
In Syracuse there is a Greek and Roman archaeological site with a theatre
still in use. Going west there is Pantalica, a necropolis of the Bronze
Age located on impressive canyons, and Palazzolo, the inland Greek outpost.
To the south there is the 'baroque capital' of Noto with its magnificent
urban views, and the natural park of 'Vendicari ' facing the sea where
the natural environment is still untouched. Sea resorts are in 'Fontane
Bianche' and 'Arenella', which may also be reached by bus. Main cultural
events are the classical Greek theatrical plays in the spring and the
'Ortigia Festival' in the summer.
The "Porta Marina apartments" are located in a small palace
dating back to the 15th century on via dei Cordari, a small pedestrian
street very close to Piazza Duomo, Porta Marina and the sea front.
The "Fronte Mare apartments" are situated in a small palace
on Lungomare, facing directly the sea and the cliffs of Forte Vigliena.
The apartments have been recently renovated using traditional materials
and retain several old architectural and decorative elements (face exposed
arches and niches).
The apartments are perfectly suited for a comfortable stay in the heart
of Ortigia, the historical centre of Syracuse.
